Research

ESIEA has 5 main research areas :

Satellite Image Acquisition and Processing

ESIEA is one of the few engineering schools in France to have a METEOSAT satellite image reception station, officially recognized by EUMETSAT the European Space Agency. This is a major and growing sector including remote sensing, real time cartography and many other strategically important areas which will be indispensable for the major scientific challenges of the future.

Information and Systems Security

Confidentiality during a communication session, confidentiality and integrity of exchanged messages. Electronic identification and authentification, electronic signatures, cryptoanalysis, watermarking, digital imagery, etc. Security of Information and Systems is currently a fast developing area at ESIEA.

A specialised Masters Degree in Information Systems Security (Bac+6) has been developed to train future information security specialists and managers. The course provides students with a detailed overview of the field of systems safety and more generally management of the risk associated with the security of company information.

Virtual Reality

Development of all areas where the computer is the interface between human beings and a virtual world. Inclusion of the human being in a virtual three dimensional 1/1 scale world, with fluid navigation in real time. The ESIEA Virtual Reality courses include Human/machine Interactions, 3D Real Time Computer Aided Design. ESIEA has become a major player in this field with a consulting activity in the field of Virtual Reality. ESIEA offers an ideal springboard for research in this speciality.

This state of the art technology provides access to a whole range of very exciting careers :
Medical Imaging, On-board Real Time, Simulation, Expert Systems, etc.

Cryptology and Virology

The Operational Cryptology and Virology Laboratory’s core research activity deals with computer security - mostly in virology and cryptology - in the field of defensive computing applications but in connection with offensive computer security (computer warfare).

Emphasizing both the theoretical approach - to maintain a high academic skills - and applied research inspired by problems (from the government sphere, but also from the industrial one), the main objective is not only to understand the current attacks but also and especially to predict and invent the future attacks. This proactive approach aims at anticipating the threat (defensive area) but in a context of evolution of French doctrine, to investigate towards both a theoretical and practical arsenal in the offensive area (government sphere). The key word in both areas is the operational capability.

The laboratory retains strong links not only with the Department of Defense, but also with the Departments of Justice and Interior. This applies to both the thematic part of the research activity and the creation and maintenance of a secure environment for conducting this research activity in respect of the principal regulations.

Art and Digital Research

Rarely practiced, the cross fertilization of the contributions between engineers and artists is obviously a source of conceptual and methodological enrichments. Also, receptivity to new ways of seeing the world, the development of critical judgment, the study of creativity and the capacity of modeling develop through a constructive dialogue between specialists of both domains.

The ARNUM© laboratory (Art and Digital Research)) at ESIEA organizes these exchanges and stimulates this positive reflection.

First, it offers to ESIEA students a space to exercise the theoretical and practical imaginative qualities of the engineer. Concurrently, the cultural teaching involved leads them to put into transdisciplinary perspective the study of the technological changes and the productions that mobilize computer science.

Finally, the laboratory offers its technical expertise and its collaboration to its partners - cultural institutions and artists.
